Let's Normalize Mental Performance Training.

Sneak Peek: Self Awareness (Course 1)

1. Eric and the SAT

The story of Eric and the S.A.T. shows that often what we believe drives our behavior and that beliefs and behaviors feed off of one another.

Mindset is a Conditioned set of Beliefs that Drive Behavior. To have positive Beliefs and positive Behaviors is to have positive Mindset.

CONDITIONING your mind comes from what you See, Hear and Experience.

This drives your BELIEFS

Your BEHAVIORS and ACTIONS are strongly dictated by these BELIEFS (regardless of whether or not they are true).

2. Shaping

Body | Craft | Mind: There are three main pillars to an athlete and what they can train. Their body (lifting, running, agility), their craft (the skill sets needed to play their sport), and their mind.

Time: Studies show that peak performers spend 80% of their time in the present moment. Being present is a key component of success. Athlete’s need to limit the time they spend thinking about the past and the future. From a negative standpoint, shame lives in the past. Fear lives in the future.

Inner Voice: Your first thought will be negative. But your second, third and fourth thoughts do not have to be. You can train your mind to change the direction of your thoughts and to make your following thoughts positive.

3. Competency

If you don’t know WHY you were successful, it is very hard to replicate past success and to make it a norm. Success leaves clues and so it’s good to figure out why you were successful before, so you can recreate the environment that led to it.

4. The Good Wolf

This is our 1st Strategy for taking control and this chapter is built around taking control of negative thoughts. Our thoughts are contagious. 80% of thoughts are negative and 95% are recurring. That is a lot of natural negativity to overcome. We need to work to “feed the good wolf and learn to think more positively.

5. Visualization for Optimal Performance State

Pele’s pre-game routine involved reminding himself about why he loves the game, thinking about his recent success, and visualizing plays he will make in the game to come. Let’s learn from the best.

6. Self Awareness Recap

A review. The mind does not know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. Past success, perfect reps and perfect performance can be obtained through visualization.

Making "Nerves" work for you.

Too often, we let Butterflies in our stomach take control of our performance. It is natural to want to "flight, fight, freeze or hide" when faced with pre-game nerves. But, if you know how to convert this "Fear Trigger" into a "Flow Trigger," nerves can be an advantage for you. It's all in how you interpret them.

For Parents. The one (and only) phrase that your kids need to hear.

There is no arguing that for many families, youth sports can be a source of stress, anxiety and relationship-strain. Hard to say if it is worse for the kid or the parents (or coaches for that matter). If you are a parent and you are not a coach, reestablish your parent-child interaction with one simple phrase. And guess what, your child athlete will perform better knowing there is one less critic to deal with.

The 4-Minute Mental Workout

Here is a daily routine for driving greater confidence through introspection. Breath / I Have / I Am / I Will. In other words... H.A.W.

Feelings Are Not Facts

Getting to Neutral or "Green" or your "Real Frequency" is important. Elite performers know how to control nerves by calming or amping up depending on where they are. "Green" is the neutral state of calm.
